Recommended Dog Training Products

When we train in your home, we keep the gear list short and simple. Everything on this page comes straight out of the weekly guides our client families follow, from the first night home through heel work and settle work. You do not need all of it on day one; we will tell you what your dog actually needs and when.

Crate and Settling

These are the day-one purchases; the den is set up before your dog ever walks in the door.

• Wire Crate With Divider Panel (shop on Amazon): For a puppy, this is the den, the off switch, and the backbone of potty training. Tip: Set the divider so there is only room to stand, turn around, and lie down; a crate that is too big causes accidents inside it. The link is the 36 inch size; sizes from 18 to 48 inches exist, so ask us which fits your dog.
• Adult-Size Crate or Kennel (shop on Amazon): The adult dog’s den for meals, nights, and decompression. Tip: Size it so your dog has room to stand and turn around; the link is the 42 inch size.
• Washable Crate Pad (shop on Amazon): A flat washable pad is the crate bedding that survives a puppy. Tip: Skip plush beds and towels; puppies learn to shred them.
• Crate Cover or Light Blanket (shop on Amazon): Darkens the crate into a real den so your dog rests instead of watching the room. Tip: Breathable fabric only; cover the back and one side to block window-fixation, or the front too when your dog watches the room instead of resting. • Elevated Crate Water Bowl (shop on Amazon): Keeps daytime water in the crate up off the floor so it does not get splashed around. Tip: Water comes out at least an hour before bed.
• Clip-On Kennel Bowls (shop on Amazon): Food and daytime water hang inside the kennel instead of sitting on the floor, where a bowl becomes a splash pad.

Potty Training and Cleanup

In use from the very first trip outside during the first three days home.

• Lightweight Leash (shop on Amazon): Goes on for every potty trip to the single outdoor spot, starting with the very first one.
• Enzymatic Cleaner (shop on Amazon): Cleans an accident down to zero scent so the spot does not advertise itself and one accident does not become a habit. Tip: Clean accidents you find later quietly; scolding after the fact only teaches hiding.

Collars, Leashes and Walking

The collar goes on at day 2 or 3, and leash work runs through every week of the program, from the first off and come drills to heel.

• Martingale Collar (shop on Amazon): Our one training collar from day 2 or 3 onward: it sits loose at rest, tightens only when your dog pulls, and cannot be slipped or backed out of mid-walk. Tip: Safe in the crate because it sits loose with nothing to snag; once training walks begin it replaces the harness.
• Standard 4 to 6 Foot Leash (shop on Amazon): Lives on your dog in the house between reps so every drill starts with the leash already on and each command becomes a simple yes or no; it runs the come drill, silent walk-backs, the tension drill, the tether settle, and guest greetings.
• Two-Handle Leash (shop on Amazon): The second handle anchors your grip in one spot so the edges of the heel zone never move.
• Long Line (15 to 30 Feet) (shop on Amazon): The yard safety net as the come command moves outdoors. Tip: Check with us before starting long-line recall; we build the off-leash progression together.

Treats and Rewards

In play from the first week of drills, then deliberately faded so your dog works for you rather than for the food.

• Treat Pouch (shop on Amazon): Keeps the pay on your hip and out of sight, so your dog answers your word instead of visible food and the reward lands at the exact moment it should. Tip: Load it with your dog’s own kibble, pay unpredictably, and fade the pouch so the food never becomes the cue.
• Small Soft Training Treats (shop on Amazon): High-value pay for the biggest wins, like a fast come or unfreezing a worried dog, while everyday reps run on praise and kibble. Tip: Break each treat into 4 pieces and skip some reps; a treat is an incentive, not something your dog must see before listening.

Play and Enrichment

Woven through the whole program as the daily brain drains and wind-downs between training rounds.

• Chew Toy Rotation (shop on Amazon): Three or four toys out at a time are the legal choices in the shoe drill and the trade your puppy gets after an off. Tip: Keep 3 or 4 out at a time.
• Snuffle Mat (shop on Amazon): Part of a meal becomes 10 to 15 minutes of nose work that drains the brain, settles a wound-up dog faster than another walk, and makes lying still come easier.
• Freezer-Safe Lick Mat (shop on Amazon): Smeared with peanut butter or pumpkin and frozen, it is the calm-down button after training rounds and the send-off into the kennel. Tip: Confirm your mat is freezer safe before freezing it.
• Canned Pumpkin (Plain, 100 Percent) (shop on Amazon): The other lick-mat filler, less sticky than peanut butter and just as easy to freeze. Tip: Plain, 100 percent pumpkin only, not pie filling.
• Puzzle Feeder (shop on Amazon, 40 lbs and up or under 40 lbs): A brain-game option for the out-hour and mental work through the teenage phase, alongside find-it games and hidden kibble.

Place and Settle Work

Centered on Week 3, when the place command starts, and used for settle work from then on.

• Elevated Place Cot (shop on Amazon): The raised edges give your dog a boundary they can feel, so on or off the cot is never a debate, and after walks it becomes the wind-down station where calm buys freedom back. Tip: One cot serves the whole program; if you already own it, there is nothing new to buy.
• Long-Lasting Chew (shop on Amazon): Your dog’s own settled job on the cot through dinner-length place holds, bridging from worked-up to switched-off.
• Yak-Style Chew (shop on Amazon): The post-walk settle project on the cot or in the kennel.
