Meet Benny Smith, trust-first dog trainer and founder in Kansas City

Building trust changes everything, whether you’re leading people or training dogs. That principle brought Benny Smith from a successful sales career to founding his own dog training company in Kansas City. He is a professional dog trainer in Kansas City known for helping families solve real behavior problems through a trust-first approach.

His approach, the Trust-First Method, focuses on connection, communication, and family education, not just obedience.

From sales success to shelter lessons

Benny’s understanding of trust began early, caring for a spirited Pomeranian named Peanut. That responsibility taught him that leadership, patience, and connection matter more than authority.

In his sales career, Benny discovered a universal truth: people respond to those they trust, not just experts.

Volunteering at animal shelters and working alongside other professional dog trainers, he realized the same applied to dogs. Presence, consistency, and genuine understanding built the strongest connections.

The turning point: Sven’s story

Benny’s family brought home an Australian Shepherd, Sven, after a time of loss. Traditional group classes and treat-based programs failed. Only when they tried an e-collar approach done correctly did they see real results: Sven responded reliably, calmly, and without treats.

This experience sparked Benny’s obsession with understanding why it worked. He studied e-collar methodology, safety, and dog psychology.

He realized that communication, not punishment, builds trust, and that most dog training programs fail because they don’t teach families how to connect with their dogs.

The Marquis Dog Training & Puppy Obedience Trainer Difference

After years as a trainer, Benny saw that one-size-fits-all solutions don’t work. Marquis Dog Training & Puppy Obedience Trainer was built on a simple idea:train the family, not just the dog, and focus on trust that fits real life.

Trust before tasks

Dogs follow out of confidence, not fear or treats. Trust makes learning natural and reliable.

Family coaching

Owners learn the “WHY” behind each technique, so success continues long after sessions end.

Lifestyle integration

Training fits your home, schedule, and dog’s personality, because real families don’t live in perfect scenarios.

Success stories

Banks

Gardner, KS

Dog: Papillon

Two sessions, both graded Breakthrough. A nightly thirty-minute fight to get Banks brushed became lying calmly and indifferent to it within about ten minutes, and a month later he stayed settled through the whole routine.

Program:

Puppy training

August

Lake Lotawana, MO

Dog: Australian Shepherd, 10 years

August is a ten-year-old who spent roughly four hours howling without pause whenever he was shut behind a door. Ten sessions over about five weeks, nine Improving and one Breakthrough, got him settling and staying quiet on his own.

Program:

Obedience training

Toby

Overland Park, KS

Dog: Bernedoodle

Toby was defensive enough at the door in his first session to make gum contact with the trainer. Read as a control and confidence problem rather than aggression, he was calm and pettable by the end of that same session.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My new puppy Tucker is 10 weeks old and we have been working with Benny for two weeks. He already knows sit place kennel leave it come and his name I’ve not had one night of lost sleep. The dog is potty training beautifully and we don’t see any behaviour issues which is unheard of in a cocker spaniel. I cannot recommend Noble Dog Training and Benny enough!!!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Today my Elsie Rita, a 150 pound female Rottweiler met Benny. Elsie is very well trained and very gentle around strangers, but sometimes reserved. I couldn't get her to get up into my jeep so I could take her for vet appointments and such, so I decided to try Noble trainers. In 15 minutes Benny had her running up the ramp into the Jeep and jumping out of it. I couldn't believe my own eyes as I have been trying for months to get her to load up. Due to open heart surgery I could no longer lift her up into the jeep. The real amazing part of Benny's visit was when he gave me her leash and i walked Elsie right up the ramp and into the jeep. Benny was very friendly, caring, and took the time to build trust with my Elsie Rita. Needless to say, I will be using Noble, and especially Benny for all my training and consulting needs. Thank you Benny, and Elsie Rita thanks you...

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a really great experience working with this dog training company. From the start, they were professional, easy to communicate with, and clearly knew what they were doing. You can tell they actually care about the dogs and the owners, not just getting through a session.

We had been going to a training school and not seeing in-home results with our mini bernedoodle for separation anxiety / confidence. We found Noble Training and decided to give it a go in hopes those issues could get resolved. Benny has been super wonderful to work with since day 1! He’s always very responsive, walks through every question we have in-depth (he NEVER rushes a session), showing us how to properly use commands and tools, and is very understanding of our stressors, focusing the training in a way that we’re always following the program with our overall goals in mind. If you’re having any types of issues, I highly recommend giving him a try! We have been nothing but happy thus far! And enjoy this picture of our dog sitting with his on place (something he definitely wouldn’t have done 6 weeks ago when we started)!
