In-Home Dog Trainer and Founder

In-Home Dog Training in Gladstone MO

Every Marquis trainer is a Trust-First In-Home Dog Training in Gladstone MO specialist and serving the Northland with in-home coaching for puppies, obedience, and reactive dogs. He’s an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator, and his work is built around clear rules, practical follow-through, and calm leadership so your dog behaves reliably without your life revolving around training.

We understand Gladstone’s real-world routines.

Gladstone dogs don’t learn in “perfect” environments—they learn around real distractions on the 1.3-mile fitness trail at Happy Rock Park, and on the natural hiking trails at Maple Woods Nature Preserve. We also train in the Gladstone parks families actually use—Happy Rock Park, Oak Grove Park, and Maple Woods—so your dog learns skills that hold up where you live and walk.

Frequently asked questions about In-Home Dog Training in Gladstone MO

When does the new Gladstone dog park open, and how do I prepare my dog?

The new 5-acre off-leash dog park at 7600 NE Antioch Road (just north of Happy Rock Park) is under construction and expected to open in 2026. The park will feature two rotating large dog areas, a small dog section, drinking fountains, and waste stations.

Preparation Requirements:

  • Reliable recall (your dog comes when called, even during play)
  • Impulse control (your dog can disengage from exciting situations)
  • Neutrality training (your dog doesn’t NEED to greet every dog)

We train these skills progressively using Happy Rock’s open fields and controlled park environments. Most dogs need 8-12 weeks of training to be truly dog park ready. Contact Glen Whitten at (816) 423-4131 or glenw@gladstone.mo.us for official opening updates.

How do I train a reactive dog on busy Antioch Road or near Happy Rock?

Busy streets like Antioch Road are IDEAL for reactivity training because real-world triggers exist. We don’t avoid distractions. we use them strategically.

We start at your dog’s threshold distance (where they notice triggers but don’t react yet), pair triggers with high-value treats, and gradually decrease distance over weeks. This is counterconditioning: teaching your dog that other dogs and people predict GOOD things, not panic.

Many ‘aggressive’ dogs are actually fearful first. We address the fear, and the reactivity disappears. This work happens at real Gladstone locations: parking lots near Happy Rock, quiet sections of Flora Park, and eventually busier areas as confidence builds.

I adopted my dog from Gladstone Animal Shelter or NAWS. Can you help rescue dogs?

Yes. Most rescue dogs arrive with anxiety, unknown history, or behavioral challenges. Our anxiety and aggression program is designed specifically for this.

We don’t judge your dog’s past. We build confidence and safety in your Gladstone home and parks. Many rescues need 4-8 weeks to decompress in a new home before formal training begins. We guide that timeline and support you throughout.

We’ve worked with dogs from Gladstone Animal Shelter, Northland Animal Welfare Society (NAWS), KC Pet Project, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, and other local rescues. Rescue dogs CAN thrive-they just need the right approach.

Do you offer specialized training for reactive and aggressive dogs?

Yes. Our reactive dog program uses Fear-Free, positive reinforcement protocols backed by behavioral science research. We customize desensitization plans based on individual triggers (stranger approach, other dogs, sounds, crowding), work in real Kansas City locations to build genuine confidence, and focus equally on teaching YOU how to support your dog’s healing.

The honest truth: this isn’t about “fixing” behavior quickly. Genuine healing takes time—typically 4–8 weeks, depending on severity. But when your reactive dog actually relaxes around triggers instead of just obeying commands under pressure, that’s real transformation. That’s permanent.

How does in-home training work? What actually happens during sessions?

In-home dog training typically runs 60 minutes, once or twice weekly, on your schedule. Your trainer meets your dog in the environment where she actually lives—living room, kitchen, backyard, or nearby parks.

Here’s the actual progression: Week 1–2: Your trainer demonstrates skills while you observe and ask questions. Week 2–3: You start practicing exercises while the trainer coaches and provides feedback. Week 4+: You lead exercises independently; the trainer coaches only when needed.

By completion (typically 4–8 weeks depending on program), you own all the skills. Your dog responds to YOU, not to the trainer. Progress is real, permanent, and genuinely yours.

What if I don’t see progress quickly?

Most families see meaningful shifts within 2–4 weeks. Puppies progress fastest (they’re blank slates). Adult dogs with established habits take longer. Reactive dogs healing from anxiety take the longest—and that’s actually a good sign. Slow, steady progress is real. Overnight transformation usually means behavior suppression, not genuine change.

If you’re not seeing progress by week 4, we adjust the plan. Maybe your dog needs a different motivation. Maybe timing needs tweaking. Maybe something in the home environment needs to change. We’re committed to progress for YOUR dog, not a generic training timeline.
