We train both simultaneously because they’re complementary skills – recall builds movement response to cues, stay builds impulse control and stillness. Training them together actually accelerates progress because your dog learns both action (come) and restraint (stay) as responses to your cues. We balance sessions so your dog doesn’t get confused or fatigued practicing just one command repeatedly
Will reliable recall work for my dog’s specific breed (hound, terrier, herding breed)?
Yes, though training approaches vary by breed drives. Hounds (strong scent drive) require high-value food rewards competing with scent. Terriers (prey drive) need impulse control around movement triggers. Herding breeds (motion-reactive) benefit from structured release cues.
