Bill & Lacey – Lee’s Summit

Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Rottweiler puppies playing together on grass

Location: Lee’s Summit, MO

Dog: Lacey (breed not specified)

Program: Obedience Training

Lacey’s jumping was a safety issue with our toddler. We couldn’t trust her around the kids because she’d knock them over in excitement. The place command training gave her a calm alternative to jumping. Now she settles on her bed when the kids are around, and everyone feels safe. This training literally changed our family dynamics. Before, we were constantly separating Lacey from the kids, which made everyone frustrated. Benny taught Lacey that staying on her place when excited meant treats, praise, and eventually calm interaction with the children. The kids learned to reward Lacey’s calm behavior, which empowered them and built their confidence around her. Within six weeks, Lacey could be trusted completely around our toddler. She still gets excited, but now she channels that excitement appropriately by going to her place. Our home went from constant stress and management to peaceful coexistence. For families with young children and energetic dogs, the place command is transformative. It gives dogs a clear expectation and kids a safe way to interact. Lacey is now the family dog we hoped for – gentle, controlled, and trustworthy around our children.
