Annie, a Poodle in Olathe, has been struggling with severe separation anxiety. Her family recently went away on a long trip, which made the situation tougher for her in their absence. They called us in to help her feel more at ease and build a sense of security with the routine that had been disrupted.
In our first session together, we focused on developing a bond and creating a calm environment. We spent time getting to know Annie, using gentle interactions to help her understand that she could trust us. Throughout the session, we noticed her responding to our presence, especially during short practice separations where we reassured her with calm, positive reinforcement.
A notable moment came when Annie was able to stay in a designated spot while I moved around the room. She showed less stress than we’d anticipated, which was encouraging for her family and a testament to her progress. It was clear that with patience, she could start to manage her feelings of anxiety more effectively.
Moving forward, we’ll continue working on her comfort with alone time, gradually building her confidence. The goal is for Annie to feel secure when her family is away, allowing her to relax and trust that they’ll return. We’re optimistic about her progress in the coming sessions.
