Foxy is a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy in Mission Hills who came to Marquis Dog Training with house training accidents, mouthing, and an early habit of fixating on delivery drivers and passersby from the yard. Across 4 sessions in under two weeks, 15 to 27 June 2026, she stopped having indoor accidents and started walking to the door to signal. On a neighborhood walk she let both a UPS driver and a neighbor’s Greyhound pass without fixating, two triggers that had reliably set her off.

Foxy the Lagotto Romagnolo puppy met her place cot for the first time this week, and the curly little water dog caught on fast. We started by building interest in the cot, then used the leash as a gentle guide and marked the moment she stayed put, within one session she was sitting and holding position on her own.
Lagotti are smart, nose-driven, and built to work, which is exactly why structure helps so much. We also coached the family on redirecting puppy nipping, steady leash work instead of a tug-of-war, and a statue routine for potty breaks so the yard becomes a job before it becomes playtime.
Potty training is clicking too, fewer accidents this week and Foxy now heads to the door when she needs out. Steady, real progress for a busy puppy.

Week 4 · 2026-06-27

Foxy, a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy in Mission Hills, spent Week 4 learning a single cue that does the work of a dozen: “off.” Instead of a different word for every unwanted behavior, she’s learning one respected signal that means break what you’re doing and check back in.
The key: patience. You wait out the focus, the leaf, the shoe, the blanket, and the second her attention shifts back to you, that’s the moment to praise. By the end of the session you could see the light bulb come on.
A Lagotto brain picks things up fast. Foxy also held a 30-second sit-wait at her food bowl for the first time, a small win that says her impulse control is growing.

Week 4 · 2026-07-10

Foxy, a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy in Mission Hills, spent Week 4 learning a single cue, ‘off’, that works for any behavior we want her to stop: chewing a shoe, grabbing a blanket corner, or barging toward a guest.
The key: wait. Our trainer said the cue once, held steady, and let Foxy work it out on her own. The moment she looked away from what she wanted and chose an allowed toy, she got the ‘yes.’ By the end of the visit she was glancing both ways and making the right choice herself.
That Lagotto brain picks things up fast, the job now is patience and repetition until it’s automatic.
Wins: puppy off command · impulse control · Lagotto training · settle at home
