★ Voted Best Dog Trainer in Kansas City2026 iFamilyKC Readers’ FavoriteNoble Dog Training is now Marquis Dog Training. Same team, same training.

Luna is an Australian Shepherd mix in Kansas City who reacted to strangers, movement and the door, with barking fixation cycles her owners could not interrupt. Across 10 sessions between 6 June and 15 August 2026, including two graded breakthrough, Marquis Dog Training used a tethered calm approach, the place protocol, a structured heel and crate work. Her owners called the first tethered greeting the best interaction they had ever had with her. Later she held a tight heel with an automatic sit at every stop through construction noise, a leaf blower, a stranger and barking dogs, without barking once. The unlock was reframing her reactivity as a self-assigned protector role rather than aggression.

Luna settled and approached a stranger (Benny) calmly on a tethered leash, owners said it was ‘the best interaction we’ve ever done’ and ‘literally never how she acts.’ Strong processing/balance signals when the toddler walked past. Benny’s read: fear/confusion from conflicting prior training rather than intent to harm; defensive snapping is a last resort. Recommended a 12-week program (Noble Freedom, $3,299 quoted).

Benny broke Luna’s barking-fixation cycle with a single ‘off’ and one light tap on the covered kennel; Luna dropped a level, laid down, and eventually fell asleep and snored. Madi has also started having Luna sleep in the kennel at night, and last night Luna walked straight in and laid down on her own.
